John Dover performed as a professional bass player in London for twenty years. His career began in the early 1970s, when he joined a Jamaican Ska (pre reggae) band called “The Skatalites” who had a hit with “The Guns of Navarone”.

John then toured extensively throughout Europe, Scandinavia and South America performing in stadiums to crowds in excess of one hundred thousand.

Upon his return to the UK John joined the residency and session scene in the London area recording several albums for Polydor, Decca and EMI during this period. Being in great demand, he supported and performed with artists such as Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Cliff Richard, Tina Turner, Status Quo, Shakatak, Suzie Quatro etc.

John moved to Shropshire in the mid-1980s where he now lives and works. He can be seen performing a wide variety of music including pop, rock, blues, jazz and reggae with some of the finest musicians based in the Midlands. John also teaches bass and guitar in schools for his local education authority and privately from his home.

With over thirty years experience in the music industry John Dover is undoubtedly central to the success of Five Live.
