Andy RichardsAndy Richards has been a professional musician for over twenty-five years. During that time he has performed in bands, ensembles and orchestras playing rock, pop, blues, reggae, jazz, Latin and classical music.

Andy has toured extensively as a drummer and percussionist performing in the Far and Middle East, Europe and America. He has performed on P&O and Cunard cruise ships in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. Andy has appeared on radio and TV performing with or supporting such artistes as: Ken Dodd, Vince Hill, Hot Gossip, Frank Ifield, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Michael Barrymore, Jim Davidson, Wee Willie Harris, Don Everley, Jet Harris, Brenda Lee, Albert Lee and George Melly, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Nick Kershaw, to name a few.

In 2003 he was awarded the Kenny Clare Prize (BBC Radio 2 Big Band Drummer of the Year). He was awarded this prize by a panel of judges which included: Johnny Dankworth, Don Lusher, Barry Forgie (BBC Big Band Director), Mark Nightingale, John Patrick and Henry Lowther.

Andy is currently Head of Percussion for Shropshire Music Service and oversees the teaching of over four-hundred young percussionists. He can also be seen performing an eclectic mix of music with a wide variety of musicians and bands. Fronting Five Live, Andy is relaxed and his rapport with an audience is always warm and friendly.
